The initial need study by Police Facility Design Group encompassed a Public Safety Facility consisting of Police, Courts, and Fire Administration of approximately 100,000 square feet. As the process evolved, disparate site requirements dictated a separate and distinct location for the District Court and City Prosecutor’s office. This also established an opportunity for the City to phase the project’s construction costs. The 19,000 SF District Court building was designed as an urban in-fill site and was required to be certified LEED Silver in accordance with the City of Fayetteville’s sustainability mandate. The design team focused on efficient building systems and shell construction. The use of daylight monitoring, passive solar design and water conservation measures helped push the building to LEED Gold. By using sensible/sustainable practices such as regionally sourced construction materials and materials high in recycled content, we were able to exceed the City’s mandate for sustainable design.
