Completed in 2009, the new 76,000 SF police headquarters designed by Police Facility Design Group serves a rapidly growing community in the Des Moines metropolitan area. The facility and site are designed to accommodate department growth beyond the 20-year planning period. The prairie-style character of the facility’s exterior is in response to the intended design criteria of the surrounding development and addresses the City’s desire to incorporate environment- and energy-friendly features. Inviting public lobby areas include all necessary public contact points for Records, Administration, Investigations, Evidence and Detention personnel; providing greater security for staff and eliminating the need for public to be brought into staff areas. Through the use of both functional facility layout and appropriate security systems, the safety and security of both personnel and the public can be protected.
